Ever since India’s Manali – Leh Highway was opened to foreigners in 1989 cyclists have revered it as one of the most spectacular rides on the planet. The scenery is epic and hard-won over five passes between from the lush Kullu Valley over high altitude desert to the remote and starkly beautiful mountain region of Ladakh, where we rest in Leh (above) for a day before tackling Khardung La, the self-proclaimed ‘highest motorable road in the world!’.
