About us

Some history

Greenrock is an independent, family-run company based in the Malvern Hills and led by husband and wife team Joe and Laura Mearns. Joe has been running international bike rides since 1990 when he designed and rode what became the foundation for all future Greenrock rides: a 1220-mile bike ride from Warsaw to London via Paris for Marie Curie Cancer Care. Laura is a former Rough Guide travel writer and photographer, and author of Himalaya by Bike, published by Trailblazer Guides. Greenrock has been a limited company since 1999.

Dave O’Brien is the lynchpin of our backup team on our tours and Jennie Flory is our Company Secretary. Our website and design are done by the fantastic team at Fresh01 (www.fresh01.com), led by Kurt Ozficici.

We distill our expertise of travelling and running tours around the world into designing each of our trips. The Greenrock team will always go the extra mile to get you to the finish – and we haven’t failed anyone yet!

Tour de Force (2006)

We ran the first Tour de Force ride for the William Wates Memorial Trust (www.wwmt.org) and raised over £340,000. You can see a 4 min video of the ride here

Warsaw – Paris – London (1990)

This was the first bike ride in aid of Marie Curie Cancer Care. Joe and his friend Si Mills rode 1220 miles from Marie Curie’s birthplace in Warsaw to her home and laboratory in Paris, finishing at the MCCC HQ in London.

Himalaya by Bike (2008)

Laura spent three years riding solo from Pakistan to Bhutan researching and writing this route guide to the Himalayas. For photos and more visit www.himalayabybike.com

Karakoram Highway (1992)

Way back when China still used Foreign Exchange Certificates and bicycles ruled Beijing Joe led a 4-man team over the Karakoram from Islamabad to Kashgar.
